Bird Boxes and Bug Hotels added to The Dell

The Dell is an area of woodland at the south of the Recreation ground off Bowstridge Lane.

This year our groundsmen and The Conservation Volunteers have spent time removing ivy from the trees, removing Himalayan Balsam (an invasive species) and planting wild flowers.

Last week the Conservation Volunteers added 18 Bird Boxes and Bug Hotels to the trees in The Dell. The boxes had been carefully crafted by Chalfont St Giles Scout Group. They also conducted a 15 minute butterfly count in which seven different species were identified.

The next addition will be a hibernacula which will encourage reptiles and stag beetles.

The Parish Council would like to thank The Conservation Volunteers and Chalfont St Giles Scouts for their work in this area.
