Chalfont St Giles Parish Council on behalf of two community groups have recently bid for and won two grants from the Local Area Forum.
Chalfont St Giles Community Library was awarded £5,500 to change the layout of the library and install new desks. This change will bring the information centre volunteers to the front of the library to enable them to be clearly visible to visiting tourists. It is hoped that by offering local information at a recognised visitors centre, more tourists will visit the library and spend some time in Chalfont St Giles before visiting other attractions thereby increasing footfall in the village and supporting local retailers.
The Youth Club Community Hub was awarded £1,600 to purchase trestle tables and chairs. This will enable the youth club to become a community hub where the young people open up the space to the elderly residents encouraging them to attend coffee mornings and bingo afternoons.
Cllr Jane Chamberlain who had submitted the bids on behalf of the council said “We are really pleased to help these two local initiatives which will both add value to our businesses and our community.”
